My Dream Life And How I Will Spend The Rest Of My Years
I want to be a lot of things, don’t we all? Our society dictates everybody to diversify, have multiple streams of income and not have all your eggs in one basket. That could mean having multiple careers or becoming different personas to live up to. There’s nothing wrong with doing this, as it has worked for many. Although, timing plays a very important role when wanting a lot of things. There needs to be a timeline or progression in planning your life, especially what you will do when you reach your senior years. What I found out is that it doesn’t work for everyone—I mean, being a lot of things at once, and then we get confused about our identity which leads to the lack of purpose in life. The reason is because we try to force so much in such a small period of time, it’s like over filling a wine decanter instead of allowing a small amount of wine to aerate first before adding some more. In reality, it takes at least 7 years or 10,000 hours to be good at something. You can’t spend 10,000 hours on three endeavors all at once.
I’m 31, and the things or ideas that didn’t occur to me before when I was younger are now slowly revealing themselves to me. My preferences in life have drastically changed and are continuing to evolve. Who would have thought that I would end up living in Miami and learn spanish? As life unfolds its beauty to me, I’ve have come into conclusion with myself that I want a simple and abundant existence. I’ve narrowed down my life in four simple goals or should I say, routines.
My dream life will consist of being financially abundant, occasionally cook for friends and family, teaching the younger generation with what I know and finally, traveling. That’s all I want. I don’t want to be famous, maybe niche famous, meaning, if I become well known in the culinary industry, then that would be pleasing.
Being Financially Abundant
I want to be secured and not worry about my daily, monthly or yearly source of income. Trading Options will be my number one source of active income. Options is the only source of income that I prefer to keep as “active.” You may ask, “why?” Well, trading the stock market keeps my mind working and it allows me to look forward to something the moment I wake up. I love the adrenaline and quite frankly, this is the most difficult endeavor of my life right now. It involves a lot of psychology. I can lose a lot and I can make a lot too. If I get my bearings right, then I can be a consistently profitable trader that can propel my wealth beyond what is possible. I may or may not be a business owner, it depends on which business it will be. But to me, working 1-3 hours a day at the comfort of my home and make wealth that can last me generations seems like the most fitting idea for my lifestyle and beliefs.
On top of this, I will be investing in the long term. Buying quality stocks for dividends is a proven wealth builder of wealthy people. All the dividends that I will earn will be reinvested back to compound over time. The power of compounding at such a long period of time is one of man’s best inventions.
Will I own restaurants? Maybe yes or maybe not. There’s a lot of work and time involved in growing a culinary business and with where I’m at right now, there might be a chance that I will hold on to this career. It depends on how life will unfold for the next year. If I get my Michelin Star, then there’s a really strong chance that I will continue.
Cooking for Clients, Friends and Family
If the restaurant business doesn’t materialize, then continuing my private dining services will help to keep me relevant with the culinary industry. I like inviting people to come try my cuisine, that first “wow” moment is what I always look for. Private dinners are so genuine and fun.
Mentoring
Oh boy. I like teaching. I think I have an innate skill in educating people and nurturing them to become good. I would like to mentor how to trade options once I become successful and teach people how to cook. I’ve already done it, come check my article entitled “Teaching A Friend How To Cook,” so you can see how it went. There’s something very satisfying and rewarding with the transfer of wisdom to another, especially when you see your student progress. This will keep me actively moving when I hit my senior years.
Traveling for the Sake of Wisdom and Appreciation of Life
Traveling encompasses eating out and trying new good restaurants, drinking wine and visiting other places—by land, air and sea. It’s a complete package that cannot be dissected individually. Imagine traveling to France only to eat McDonald’s? NO. People need to understand that when you travel to a foreign destination, one must immerse him/herself in the entirety of its culture. Culture involves beliefs, way of life, language, history and food & beverage. When you are in France, eat French food, eat croissants, eat stuff that you don’t have back in your home country. When you’re in Thailand, enjoy the curries, enjoy the nightlife and night markets. When you’re in Italy, appreciate the tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, basil and eating slowly. When you’re in Spain, check out Rioja wines and have siesta. In Japan, eat as much fresh fish as you can. Compare these things that you’ve just experienced to the ones that you’ve had before. Are they similar? Are they better? If it’s a new experience, did you like it? If you’re able to answer these questions, then you understand the essence of traveling. It’s basically appreciating something that you have never experienced or seen before. I like to travel because it makes me wiser. It makes me appreciate life better. Come check my article “The Importance of Traveling,” and be educated.
Retirement
There’s no such thing in my vocabulary. My definition of retirement is when I decide to stop having a 9-5 to allow me to do the things that I love doing, which are all listed above. I would probably form a cover band so when I hit my 40’s or 50’s, I’ll start performing at parties, singing 70’s and 80’s music just for fun. That would be nice. Imagine, a life full of connections, meeting new friends, traveling, food & wine, and music. What else is there to ask for? I don’t need fancy cars or extravagant things. They don’t bring any satisfaction to me. Well, I need a HUGE and modern kitchen to host parties. What I need is self-fulfillment, laughing with family & friends and a glass of red wine.
How about you? What is your dream life?
